business building   “Join me inside my Hot Pursuit Master Class coaching course, where I help professionals like you move from an employee mindset to an entrepreneur mindset by raising your Entrepreneur IQ to build the business of your dreams.”

Let me ask you something…

You have buckets of passion for building a thriving dream business! Right?

And if you’re like many coaches and business owners out there you also have shelves of business books and programs you’ve invested in to match the certifications you’ve completed, framed, and hung on your wall. Right?

So why is it that your enthusiasm is dropping, your bank account is dwindling, and your business is flatlined – rather than growing and thriving like you imagined it would be by now?

With so much enthusiasm and dedication in your heart, why are you slowly slipping into the Department of Commerce’s statistic that states:

“40% of the 1,000,000 businesses started in the US EVERY YEAR fail in the first year, and 80% of those fail within the first 5 years (That’s over 800,000 failed businesses every 5 years in the US).”

Even, with all the resources available to us today on how to build a successful business, few individuals and organizations are actually successful long term…

…seriously, what’s up with that?!!

Where are people going wrong?

What’s missing?

If this is your dream, your calling, your purpose; then why is it so hard?

When I see coaches and new entrepreneurs at this point in their business career, they often sink into the negative self-talk that runs the gambit of lines like:

“Maybe I’m not meant for this”

“I’ll never figure this out”

“I’m just not good at X (sales, marketing, public speaking, etc.) so I can’t be successful”

“I should throw in the towel now and get a job”

Then shortly after, they quit their business and return to some variation of the lifeless career they escaped from when they started their business.

Are you finding yourself at this point, stuck, deflated, lost, confused, and slipping into the statistic of another failed businesses?

If you are…

Then you REALLY, REALLY need to take the time to read the rest of this article carefully…

…especially this next line.

YOU are created to do so much good, and failure is NOT an option.

It pains me to see the spark go out in individuals; a spark that I know in my heart of hearts was meant to serve people and do so much good in this world.

Don’t get caught in the false belief that you can’t figure those things out or build a team to do them. And worse yet, don’t believe for a second that you weren’t made for greatness and don’t deserve a thriving, purpose-driven dream business!

The truth is, the cause of the problem is much simpler than most people realize.

The problem is just the mindset.

After being in business for almost 10 years and coaching over 12,000 people from all over the world, I’ve found that many people who transition out of their 9-5 jobs and into entrepreneurship still think and operate like an “employee” even after they started building their business.

Yes, there is a HUGE difference in thinking and operating like an employee versus an entrepreneur.

Don’t be fooled into thinking just because you are good at something and passionate about it that you can build a successful business from it.

That’s a dangerous trap I see way too many individuals fall into.

It’s kind of like an English speaking person thinking they can go into China without learning the language or culture and being wildly successful. The likelihood of that is not high. There’s a different language and different culture to be learned.

Well the same goes for going from an employee to an entrepreneur.

Two totally different languages and cultures to learn.

The reason I know this is because I was there.

For at least the first year of my business, I still thought and operated like an employee. I was working hard, spinning my wheels and not really building the business I thought I’d have.

I knew how to work for someone else, but not for myself.

So what does that mean?

That means:

  • I knew how to carry out someone else’s vision and projects, but lacked direction on my own.
  • I knew what was expected of me, but didn’t know how to define my own expectations.
  • I knew how to make decisions that served my job description, but struggled with ambivalence and indecision in my own business.
  • I knew how to let someone else dictate my time, schedule, and deadlines, but I didn’t know how to manage my own time, schedule, and deadlines.

Trying to figure it all out made my head spin.

I was exhausted.

I was overwhelmed.

I struggled to create consistent and sustainable success in my business.

Many of my newbie entrepreneur colleagues also expressed their difficulty in creating any real, lasting results in their businesses too.

I knew there was something missing here.

I mean after all, I had invested in all the best business building programs and certifications. I wasn’t lacking skill. I knew how to help my clients. I just didn’t know how to create a successful and sustainable business model. I didn’t have direction or a solid plan. Unlike in a job, where you’re told what to do, when to do it, how to do it; I didn’t have the vision or the plan to do this for myself…

…I was still stuck in an employee mindset.

This is the same problem for the majority of people who go into business for themselves. They are NOT “business people,” they don’t think or operate like a business person or entrepreneur. They’re just really good at something and thought it would be a good idea to build a business from it, without having any real business acumen.

Is this you?

I can honestly say that it definitely WAS me in my first year of business, so I can definitely relate.

I too consistently thought to myself: “I absolutely LOVE serving my clients, and I’m good at it…but I just can’t seem to get this ‘business-thing’ down.” It took someone else to point out to me that the underlying hidden reason I couldn’t figure it out…

…that I was approaching my business from the mindset of an ‘employee’ and NOT the mindset of an ‘entrepreneur’ like I absolutely needed to in order to have a thriving coaching business. (Just like I’m telling you now)

You see, until you make a psychological transition, you’ll be left struggling.

When it comes to building a successful business, as much as you need a step by step strategy and plan, you also need to address your psychology gaps and limitations. Your environment looks drastically different as an entrepreneur.

After I was able to successfully shift my mindset from an employee to an entrepreneur, my coaching business started to slowly take off – and today it is my full-time career to help and serve others.
